Sunday Inception: How I Deal with Uncertain Times

We are living through the hardest of times. The quality of life that we experience is subject to the amount of uncertainty that we face.

Everything around us has become uncertain. There is no denial of the fact that as an individual, as a family and as well as a society our future is under scepticism.

But the worse thing that we can do at this moment is to become cynical. When you become cynical you start to believe that you should be in control of the environment around you.

You think control brings you security and happiness. But when you think you’re in control of the environment, you resist what happens to your life and are never ready to accept the facts and uncertainty.

It’s only when you let go of the control, you stop resisting life and its uncertainty.

“You must accept the reality of other people. You think that reality is up for negotiation, that we think it’s whatever you say it is. You must accept that we are as real as you are; you must accept that you are not God.”

J.K. Rowling, The Casual Vacancy

Accept the fact that you’re not the God and surrender to who you’re and the reality that is happening around you.

“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders”

Lao Tzu

Let go of control and be myopic. At least that’s what works for me to deal with anxiety. When I become myopic, I start to focus on what I can control.

For example, I don’t think about what happens tomorrow. I don’t have any plan or strategy for everything about my future. I look at each day very up close and what’s in front of me. Do I like it? Does it stick with me and can I work on it for the next few days depending on the scale of the challenge and work? The slightest amount of control that I impose is what carries me in the long run.

Today, the things in front of me are to write the Sunday blog and study for the internal exams that commence from tomorrow. Then I end the day spending a few minutes reviewing a new skill that I’m learning.

That’s all.

That being said still there are an awful lot of things for me to worry about and do. But I simply choose to be myopic about all those worries and absolutely focus on today.

The desire to be in control comes from fear.

Tony Robbins once said, “Do you want to change your life? Control the only thing you can control: The meaning you give something”.
